Lynann Escatel grew up in Mesa, AZ and began dancing at the age of 4 at “Julie’s Jazz Pizzazz.” Her dance troupe of four won the Ed McMahon “1990 Star Search” Dance category as “Personality Plus”. (Yes you can utube it
http://youtu.be/67KMKqZ87sY ). She continues to dance passionately and is an Equity member. Lynann first heard about Pilates as a body conditioning program that would
allow her to rehabilitate her many injuries related to dance. After researching the Authentic Pilates Method, she chose the certification at True Pilates, New York. (Joseph Pilates>Romana Kryzanowska>Sari Santos>Lynann). She completed her certification in 2008, and continues to teach there alongside her mentors. She furthers her education and teaching skills with Sari Mejia Santo, Kathi Ross-Nash, Cynthia Shipley, Jerome Weinberg and the instructors of True Pilates. She continues to learn and develop her own body conditioning and injury prevention program. Lynann is dedicated to helping others find their own personalized body conditioning program. She came to Flesh + Bone Studio in May 2010 and loves sharing Pilates with her classes and new clients.
Liza Ard grew up in Texas with a healthy sense of curiosity and an excess of energy. Later, she settled down and went to Princeton University to study Molecular Biology. After finishing school, she promptly moved to her dream city, New York. She began to practice Pilates at the famous Drago’s Gym in 2002 under Edwina Fontaine, a former Balanchine dancer who taught alongside Joe and Clara Pilates. After her first lesson she was hooked, and decided to become a teacher. She was trained directly by Romana Kryzanowska and Sari Mejia Santo and began teaching in 2003 at Drago’s Gym (Now True Pilates). Many other wonderful teachers there mentored, encouraged, and inspired her then and now! She was a contributor in the April issue of Pilates Style magazine and loves teaching in the neighborhood she has called home since 2000!
Raised on a farm in rural Pennsylvania (really), Kathryn Holliday came to flesh+bone after meeting Clare during their Romana's certification program. The long chain of events in between included a PhD in economics, a substantial stint teaching and working at a computer, finding relief and relaxation in fitness swimming. Kathryn started Pilates to be strong enough to swim more and stress less; the variety of instructors and settings made it clear that all Pilates wasn't the same. After a deus ex machina (buyout) delivered her from finance, she wanted to become proficient in the discipline and also to share that wellness with others. She has completed her certification program at True Pilates New York (Joseph Pilates>Romana Kryzanowska>Sari Santo>Kathryn) and is delighted to continue the journey in Williamsburg.
It was the arrival of her son Chester in 1998 that first brought Karrie to the Pilates studio. Feeling out-of-sorts and gone soft, she turned to Pilates and the experience went to her core, not only restoring her healthy body, but also really boosting her self-confidence. She delved in, studying with world-renowned Master Instructor Romana Kryzanowska, opening her own studio, and writing two books aimed at helping clients to recover their inner strengths.
In her latest book, Post Pregnancy Pilates: An Essential Guide for a Fit Body After Baby, she draws on her personal and professional experience to enable her readers to get into the best physical and mental shape of their lives. She founded Centered, a studio for women, in 2005 to focus on post-partum recovery and general womens' health. She is happy to bring her knowledge and experience to Brooklyn and join the Flesh & Bone team!

Leyna Noel moved to NYC from San Francisco in the twilit embers of 2010 foremost to apprentice in the famed Romana’s Pilates and ultimately to become as bodacious and terrific a badass as her good friend Clare. Leyna cultivated a love of Pilates from study with Clare in the OG postage-stamp sized flesh+bone studio around the corner in 2007. On Clare’s advice, Leyna decided to become
certified to teach Pilates. She left her long-held and beloved post selling apples at the farmer’s markets for a family-run orchard, recorded an album, and toured her way back east playing shows. Deeply psyched and honored to be here at flesh+ bone, Leyna wants anyone reading this to contact her directly whenever there's something she can help with. You can leave a message at the studio directly for Leyna at 718-218-8822. Email her at
leyna@fleshandbone.org. Or catch her at the studio, she is there afternoons and evenings, and reachable by phone and email the rest of the time.
Clare is not taking new clients at this time.
Raised on a farm in rural Pennsylvania, Clare Amory was a barefoot BMX racing force to be reckoned with. Her love of motion and ideas eventually led her to Bard college. She graduated with a B.A. in Contemporary Dance/Choreography and moved to NYC. She discovered Pilates while rehabilitating a knee surgery in 1999. Clare began to study the matwork and after healing her knee found that she could suddenly jump higher and with more ease than she had ever been able to before. Her first private session on the equipment moved her so deeply that she immediately sought out instructor training. Classically certified by Master teachers Caitlin Cook (Joseph Pilates>Eve Gentry>Madeleine Black>Caitlin Cook) and Jennifer Deluca (Joseph and Clara Pilates>Romana Kryzanowska>Jennifer Deluca), she continues her study of

anatomy with Irene Dowd. Clare has studied at the most recognized studios in the city including Dragos (True pilates), Real Pilates, Power Pilates, and Re:ab. She is currently studying with Steve Giordano and Cynthia Shipley and completing her second full Pilates certification with Romana’s Pilates. Before opening flesh + bone studio Clare not only taught in Pilates studios in Manhattan and Brooklyn, but also in gyms and at a Physical Therapy and Orthopedic Medicine practice. Clare has taught on location for varied clients including MTV/Viacom and in The New York City Public Schools. Clare opened flesh + bone in May 2007 and is thrilled with the response.
